Direct a drama performance
Direct a drama performance
In this internal assessment, a Year 13 Drama student takes on the role of director for a scripted play or extended scene. You are responsible for the whole journey from reading the script to putting a performance on stage — researching the play, developing a concept for how it should look and feel, casting actors, running rehearsals, and guiding your cast and crew to deliver a finished performance. You are assessed on how well your direction shapes the overall production, not on how well the actors perform individually.
You show you understand the script and have turned it into a believable performance. Your direction makes sense and holds together, even if some moments are uneven or underdeveloped.
Your direction is skilful — the performance feels cohesive and convincing. You work with clear purpose and control, and your concept is carried through consistently from rehearsal to performance.
Your direction is highly effective and captures the deeper essence of what the playwright intended. The performance feels compelling and polished, showing a sophisticated understanding of the script and strong leadership throughout the whole process.
