Demonstrate understanding of material development
You need to show you understand how new materials are created and developed, and how these materials change the way products work and are made. This is about linking material science to real products—explaining what makes a material better and how that affects every stage from design through to throwing the product away.
You clearly describe a material and how it was developed, explain how its properties enhance a product, and identify at least one way the material affects design, building, use, maintenance, or disposal.
You use specific examples to explain how the material's properties actually improved the product's performance, connect those properties to what the product does, and show how material choice impacted several stages (design, development, implementation, maintenance, or disposal).
You demonstrate deep research into the concepts and processes behind material development, make strong links between material and product, discuss how the material might develop further and affect future products, and create an authentic viewpoint of your own rather than just reporting facts.
