NZQA suppresses grade rates for low-cohort standards.
This standard asks you to perform a complete, substantial piece of music on a second instrument (an instrument different from the one you used in AS91270) in front of an audience, as the featured soloist. You need to show that you've developed real technical skill, understand the music, and can communicate it to listeners with confidence.
- ·Perform a substantial, genre-appropriate piece of music on a second instrument that demonstrates technical skill at fourth-year instrumental level or above
- ·Play as a featured soloist who is clearly heard and seen, with a distinct or uniquely identifiable musical part
- ·Use substantially different playing techniques and skills on your second instrument compared to your first
- ·Demonstrate musicality, technical security, and stylistically appropriate interpretation throughout the performance
- ·Present your performance live to an audience in a way that shows confidence and musical expression
You perform the substantial piece with correct notes and rhythm, showing you have the technical skills needed but without particular confidence or musical depth.
You perform the piece effectively — it's technically secure, you play it in a style that fits the music, and you communicate it confidently to the audience.
