Produce a systematic body of work that integrates conventions and regenerates ideas within painting practice
This standard asks you to create a body of painting work that shows systematic development and demonstrates you understand painting conventions (like colour, composition, and technique). You need to show that you can regenerate—or develop and transform—your ideas as you work through your project, rather than just repeating the same approach over and over.
You establish a clear painting topic, experiment with some materials and techniques, show some artist research, and complete paintings with adequate technical skill and basic cohesion.
You develop a purposeful inquiry with explicit links between your subject matter and chosen techniques, integrate artist models to strengthen your conceptual thinking, sustain systematic experimentation with increasing control, and produce refined paintings with developing personal style and coherent visual language.
You conduct a focused, sustained inquiry demonstrating informed looking and original thinking, synthesise relevant artist models and painting traditions to generate conceptually rich work, show fluent technical control and distinctive mark-making across multiple iterations, deliberately regenerate ideas to increase complexity, and deliver fully resolved paintings with evident personal authorship and emotional resonance.
